Trapped in Muddle Downstream or Finding Solution Upstream

We now take up this misguided report — “7 Benefits of Passwordless Authentication” https://bmmagazine.co.uk/business/7-benefits-of-passwordless-authentication/

Downstream in digital identity, quite a few people are trapped in a mess of misguided perception that a better security would be achieved if the password is removed or replaced by biometrics that needs to be deployed with a password called ‘default password’ or ‘fallback/backup password’, often the weakest form of a numbers-only password called PIN.

Global big names including GAFAM are pouring fuel on this firestorm of ludicrous misperceptions that were generated

by ‘removal of an authenticator’ wrongly taken as ‘removal of an attack surface’

by ‘authenticators (password, token)’ being mixed up with ‘deployment of authenticators (2FA, SSO)’

by ‘unique’ being confused with ‘secret’

and by ‘two-layer (in series)’ and ‘two-entrance (in parallel)’ deployments of two authenticators being muddled up.

Alarmingly, those people are so indifferent to the consequences of removing our volition and memory from identity assurance — “Aiming to Destroy Democracy?”

On the other hand, should we explore the upstream, this issue should occur to us very soon — “Digital Identity and Democracy”

and we would realise the power and value of ‘Non-Text’ secret credentials — “Quantum Computing and Password Authentication” https://aitechtrend.com/quantum-computing-and-password-authentication/
